Greater Raleigh tourism bureau wants GLBT visitors
The Greater Raleigh Convention & Visitors Bureau is reaching out, according to a Gay City News report. And Echelonmagazine.com has a fuller account of the planning that’s underway between bureau officials and leaders of Raleigh’s and NCSU’s GLBT communities. A meeting last week underscored that “Everyone is Welcome” in Raleigh:
The meeting closed with a strong sense of positive excitement about the project that we all will be working toward and launching for our City, Raleigh GLBT Visitors and residents. Everyone generally agreed that this first meeting to implement the Raleigh GLBT Visitor Program places Raleigh into the big leagues of USA cities working to attract GLBT visitors, businesses, meetings, events and conventions as well as informing the World that “Everyone Is Welcome” in Raleigh.

This isn’t so revolutionary. Over the years, Raleigh is a magnet for nearly all of eastern NC for weekend trips to go to “the bars”, stay in a hotel, and of course have a meal.
Does the convention and visitors bureau think people will come from far and wide for Raleigh? Maybe for a meeting at the new convention center, but really I don’t see large numbers of gay tourists coming to Raleigh (I’m one of those targeted). For what?

This is excellent news. Raleigh is one of those hidden gay jewels in the USA, waiting to be discovered by the Worlds GLBT community. Raleigh, like Brian stated above, has always been the place to travel to from eastern and central North Carolina for becoming involved with an exciting GLBT Community. Because of Raleigh’s status as a great college mecca, the State’s Capital and one of the World’s leading research and development areas, GLBT people also travel in from all parts of the Planet to do business and enjoy the local attractions, diverse GLBT cultural life, great food and the fun nightlife … What this Raleigh GLBT Visitor Program will help accomplish is, regularly update people interested in Raleigh as a destination as to what to plan for, find and become involved with while in Raleigh no matter the length of time. Like I said, GREAT NEWS and much needed service.
