RailHawks’ Matt Watson to return to Cary
After a week in which three new midfielders with MLS experience were signed, we learn that one anxiously anticipated familiar face is returning to Cary.
Matt Watson, the dazzling attacking midfielder who was last season’s team MVP, has agreed to terms with the RailHawks, the team announced today. Although his numbers for last season’s low-scoring side were modest, with one league goal and four assists, the Englishman’s form on the field helped the team maintain possession and create opportunities.
Watson is finishing his season with the Baltimore Blast of the National Indoor Soccer League and ’Hawks management hopes he’ll be back in the orange-and-white kit in time for the March 14 friendly against the New England Revolution. However, in order for Watson to do that, he’ll need to miss the final three games of the Blast’s schedule.
The one puzzling footnote to the story, however, is that a California blogger reported last week that Watson was training with the San Jose Earthquakes of the MLS. We’re making inquiries.
