If you didn’t snatch up a ticket for Dinosaur Jr.’s reunion set at the Cat’s Cradle last summer, it looks like you’ll get another chance. According to Madison House Publicity (whose roster includes Dinosaur and, oddly, a whole bunch of (sometimes worthwhile) hippies), the orginal lineup will reunite for the following dates:

March 29 2006 Gypsy Tea Room Dallas TX
March 30 2006 Stubb’s Bar-B-Q Austin TX
March 31 2006 Warehouse Live HoustonTX
April 01 2006 House of Blues New Orleans LA
April 02 2006 The Moon Tallahassee FL
April 03 2006 Free Bird Cafe Jacksonville FL
April 04 2006 House of Blues SCN. Myrtle Beach SC
April 05 2006 9:30 Club Washington DC
April 06 2006 Cat’s Cradle Carrboro NC
April 07 2006 The Orange Peel Asheville NC
April 08 2006 Variety Playhouse Atlanta GA
April 09 2006 City Hall Nashville TN
April 10 2006 Young Avenue Deli Memphis TN
April 11 2006 The Vogue Indianapolis IN
April 12 2006 Blue Note Columbia MO
April 13 2006 Liberty Hall Lawrence KS
April 14 2006 The Fox Theatre Boulder CO
April 16 2006 The Depot Salt Lake City UT
April 18 2006 WOW Hall Eugene OR
April 19-20 2006 Great American Music Hall San Francisco CA
April 21-22 2006 The Troubadour West Hollywood CA

They’re spending the next month in the studio, which should be loud and, hopefully, not lame. Also, vinyl reissues of the first three albums are starting to float into record stores thanks to Baked Goods and Surefire Distribution.

Also, this hat is brilliant.

Scudds

Justus League emcee Joe Scudda is an interesting guy: Aside from tossing out a guest verse on Little Brother’s “Lovin’ It,” the first single from their Atlantic Records debut The Minstrel Show, Scudda has used his role in the video for said song to launch an acting career. An independent director in Hollywood spotted Scudda and invited him to L.A. to read for a film role. No word yet on the film, but—through those connections—Scudda will make his debut on an episode of The Shield on Feb. 14. When I asked him if he would stop cussing in his raps like another “rapper”/actor named Will Smith because of his newfound second job, he quipped “Fuck no. Put that in the paper.”

All that from a guy who told me his favorite album of 2005 was My Chemical Romance.

Little Brother performs with Joe Scudda at UNC-CH on February 10.

EDIT: They changed the date on Joe. It’s the 14th now.

Today’s State of Things on WUNC 91.5 features folks from Merge, Yep Roc and Sugarhill on local labels putting out big names along with a discussion of the dynamics of the biz right now. Steve Balcom, former head of Mammoth, just recounted that label’s downfall.
Good stuff.
The podcast will be up soon. The show replays tonight at 9 p.m.
