Raleigh songwriter Nathan Asher is a grand prize winner of Session I of the 2005 John Lennon Songwriting Contest for his song “Turn Up the Faders,” a highlight off of his band’s first album (their second album, Sex Without Love, was released last month). Session II winners will be announced in March, and Asher—one of tweleve grand prize winners in the world—will compete against the other writer in his oddly fitting category of Electronic (sure, the song has keyboards and all, but…) In the long run, there’s $20,000 and a Maxwell Song of the Year Award up for grabs.

Branson East?

One comment.

Dolly’s brother, with a big boost from the state, is building a Branson East music theme park thing out east. The hope is that it’ll boost the tourism bucks for Halifax County. Don’t know ‘bout that. Do know that it’ll boost the billboard companies.
Oh, and we’ll get to see Ray Stevens, Bobby Vinton and Yakov Smirnoff live!

Mana “China” Nishiura—drummer for Shonen Knife and DMBQdied Friday in an accident on the Delaware Memorial Bridge, riding in DMBQ’s van to a show at Club Exit in Brooklyn. Michelle Cable, Panache Booking manager and Panache Magazine editor, is recovering following surgery, and the rest of the best is stable. To make a donation, visit Shellshag’s website. They were DMBQ’s tourmates and another Panache band, sharing the bill at Kings last week.

Rumble is still one of the best guitar songs ever written.
He was a family kinda guy.

The Post has a nice feature on Link Wray with a 1958 audio clip of Rumble. If you can play chords D, A, E and B and can sorta fake a decending lick you can Rumble, too.
DDE/ DDE/ DDA/ DDE/ DDB/ Insert Lick then E/ DDE
