Politics 101: Tears

A note about Hillary Clinton tearing up yesterday. She was tired. Get over it. I just heard John Edwards say, via a Newsweek video, that he can’t remember ever tearing up on the campaign trail. But he wasn’t criticizing her (he said) when he remarked yesterday that politics is a tough business. I think he was tired too.

One reason (among many) that I will never run for office: I tear up — no, to be honest, I drip from both eyes — at the least emotional stimulus. Mawkish, manipulative, doesn’t matter. The Sound of Music? I’m a weeper. It’s a Wonderful Life? Omigod. I’ve never been a Hillary fan, or a Bill fan, for that matter. Remember the DLC? Triangulation? But I sympathized yesterday. She was emotional about the future of the country. I’d be worried if she wasn’t.
