If I were the N&O …
… I’d reclaim my Josephus Daniels statue from Nash Square and put him on my own property alongside a statue of Jonathan Daniels, the son who tried to redress his father’s wrongs by making the newspaper a liberal champion. (Until it was sold to McClathchy and decided bland was better.) If I were to dust off my old public relations hat, I’m sure I could write up something for a shared plaque to explain how then was then and now is now, and old Josephus and young Jonathan were both real sweethearts — in their respective racist & non-racist ways, of course.

Bob, you already answered your own question. The N&O is a McClatchy property cut loose from its history, its roots. What the hell do the care about Josephus? Daniels, Schmaniels.
