Wake school bond: Yes, resoundingly
Some said it was doomed to failure. The N&O’s polls said it had no chance. (The last poll had it losing by 19 points.) On the other hand, props to Dean Debnam’s Public Policy Polling, which consistently said it would win — by 8 points, in its most recent poll. And sure enough, the $970 million school bond issue in Wake County is a winner, by a solid 53-47 percent margin.
An excellent result. But a bad one for the two diehard conservatives on the Republican side who just couldn’t bring themselves to support it. They would be County Commissioner Phil Jeffreys, ousted by Democrat Lindy Brown last night, and state Rep. Russell Capps, ousted by Democrat Ty Harrell. And a very bad result for Capps’ Wake Taxpayers Association, which has pretty much marginalized itself right off the planet, hasn’t it?
