The news starts — right now.

It was a dark and dreary night. Let’s try that again. I named my Independent Weekly column Citizen (or, actually, Citizen) for two reasons. One, I’ve always thought of myself as a citizen, with all the rights and responsibilities thereof, as opposed to being a journalist who has some special right to information. And two, because Raleigh is the Triangle’s center-city, notwithstanding that triangular thing, and it’s also North Carolina’s most important city, with all due respect to Charlotte. Raleigh’s the state capital, and it’s the heart of the state’s central nervous system, which is to say its major research universities. Is it a great city? That’s where the “zen” comes in. Anyway, this version of Citizen is meant to be a straightforward extension of the column, letting me–and you, if you register and comment–a chance to weigh in on Raleigh doings more quickly than our weekly edition allows.
